Summary

  • Meta launched Meta One, a subscription service bundling more than 50 features, worldwide on September 15.
  • The individual Core and Premium plans raise limits on Muse-powered image and video generation and on Restyle.
  • The Essential, Advanced, Expert, and Max tiers for creators and businesses layer verification, scheduled publishing, and business agent capacity.

Meta launched its subscription service Meta One worldwide on September 15. It bundles more than 50 paid features across Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Meta AI, split into plans for individuals, creators, and businesses. In the announcement, Meta wrote, "The core experience across our apps and Meta AI has always been free, and that's not changing." It is the day a company that made its money from ads hands billions of users a second bill.

The price list has three layers. Single-app plans are Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus at $3.99 a month each and WhatsApp Plus at $2.99 a month. The individual bundles are Core at $7.99 a month and Premium at $19.99 a month, and the creator and business bundles are Essential from $14.99 a month, Advanced from $49.99 a month, Expert from $149 a month, and Max from $499 a month. Meta added that pricing, benefits, and availability may vary by region, app, and account.

The core of the individual bundles is AI usage. Core and Premium combine the features of the three single-app plans with more capacity to create and edit images and videos with Meta AI. According to the announcement, video generation is powered by Muse models, and in-app AI tools such as Restyle on Instagram can be used more often. The Premium help center document METAL reviewed describes the plan as one that expands monthly usage limits for AI features such as advanced image and video models, and notes that billing runs through the Apple App Store or Google Play depending on the device.

Meta's early test results are the basis for this design. According to the company, more than half of subscribers to the bundled plans engaged with both AI and expression features, and Instagram's Restyle and voice effects ranked among the top reasons people subscribed. The structure keeps Meta AI free for everyday users and charges only those who want more from the creative tools. The company described Core and Premium as plans for people who want even more creative freedom from its AI tools.

Through a marketer's eyes, the creator and business plans are the substance of this announcement. They include an enhanced profile that showcases a website, locations, and what people say about you, a bold follow button on reels, and follow invitations sent automatically to people who engage with your content. Access to Meta Business Agent, which answers customers around the clock on WhatsApp, grows as the tier rises. Reach and conversion that used to be bought with ad spend have been moved into a monthly-fee toolkit.

Each tier sells something different. Essential includes a verified badge, a verified channel on the WhatsApp Business app, and impersonation protection, pending successful verification. Advanced adds scheduling stories up to 30 days in advance, links in organic posts and reels, exportable analytics, and team access to the account without sharing a password, plus more linked devices and business broadcast credits on WhatsApp. Expert and Max open the highest levels of feature access and Business Agent capacity, aimed at teams managing at scale.

The next products are already announced. Meta said it will soon bring Edits Plus to Meta One, a plan for its video editing app Edits that adds cloud storage and syncs projects across devices. Usage of the upcoming Edits assistant, which analyzes Instagram insights and brainstorms new ideas, attaches to the same plan. The announcement said the benefits will extend to AI glasses, and that Meta will keep adding features and agent skills built to help small businesses and creators with marketing, business operations, content creation, and optimization.

This launch is the conclusion of a test that began four months ago. According to reports, on May 27 Meta opened Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus, and WhatsApp Plus worldwide while announcing tests of two Meta AI plans in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia, and ran the creator and business plans first in Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Thailand, and Bangladesh. Naomi Gleit, Meta's head of product, said in a video at the time that the plans "give people who use Meta AI more to work with, more capacity, bigger, more complex requests, and more room to create for businesses and creators." The $7.99-a-month plan was then called Meta One Plus; today the individual bundle at the same price arrived under the name Core.

Gleit also said in the same video, "We're offering premium tools that allow you to enhance presence, supercharge content, automate tasks, and protect your brand." The direction of the paid features was set then, and today's announcement translates those four into plan names and prices. According to reports, Mark Zuckerberg, Meta's CEO, said after launching the Meta AI app in 2025 that the company could offer "a subscription service so that people can pay to use more compute."

The single-app plans have found their footing, according to the company. Meta said the three single-product plans are seeing strong retention, and Instagram Plus recently added custom DM and Story fonts, notifications when certain people view your Story, and DM previews. Facebook Plus is adding Messenger customization, more Reels insights, and expanded super reactions, while WhatsApp Plus will soon test storage for chat and media backups and Focus Schedules that hide chats on a schedule. According to reports, the single-product plans have passed 15 million subscriptions and trials combined.

There is a gap in temperature between the help center documents METAL reviewed and the announcement. The announcement says Meta One is available globally, but the plan guide in the help center, read the same day, says Meta One is in limited testing and not yet available in some regions, and that if the option does not appear in the app, it may not be open yet. Subscriptions work only in supported apps on iPhone and Android, business accounts such as Facebook Pages or Instagram professional business accounts cannot subscribe to Premium, and government and political entities, including politicians, cannot use the paid benefits.

Meta's monetization does not end with this one announcement. METAL has reported that Meta launched its personal AI agent Muse with two subscription tiers at $20 and $100 a month for heavier use, and earlier reported that the paid agent Hatch would arrive in October with a new model. Creative tools inside the apps are priced through Meta One, and agents through separate subscriptions: two tracks.

An ad company has shifted one seat over toward being a subscription company. Free users stay as they are, and only those who want to create more and sell more pay by tier, a structure now organized into nine plans. For creators and businesses, this price list is a new line item to calculate alongside ad spend. What Meta sells now is not only reach but the tools that make reach.
