Zero-cost content generation refers to the situation where AI is used to create content like photos, videos, music, or text with just a single line of prompt, no camera, actors, or editing suite required. In the past, shooting even one advertising video meant renting camera equipment, hiring actors, and spending days in an editing room. Now, simply describing the desired scene in words can produce a similar result within minutes.

Despite the name, this doesn't mean the real cost is actually zero. Camera equipment and labor costs disappear, but subscription fees or usage charges for running the AI model take their place. Still, since these are far smaller than traditional production costs, the industry describes this shift as a fundamental change in the cost structure of production itself.

This term is mainly used to explain the backdrop of explosive growth in content output in the advertising, marketing, and entertainment industries. Alongside the lowered barrier to creating content comes a concern often mentioned in the same breath: a flood of low-quality or meaningless content.

Try giving an image-generation or video-generation AI a detailed prompt as if you were directing an actual product shoot or scene. For example, write something like 'sneaker advertisement photo shot in a white studio, side angle, soft lighting' as if it were a real shoot instruction sheet, and you can experience firsthand how a similar result can be produced without any actual filming.
