An AI avatar is a virtual persona made with AI technology. Whether modeled on a real person or built entirely from scratch, it comes with a face and voice that can speak any script you give it, turning it into video. It's also called a virtual human or digital human.

These avatars already have jobs — as AI news anchors, home shopping hosts, corporate training instructors, and even virtual influencers. While they're a powerful tool for cutting production costs, the line between this technology and unauthorized deepfakes of real people remains a constant point of debate. Meanwhile, "official avatar" deals made with a real person's consent are growing into a new business of their own.
