Grok Gets a Crypto Wallet Built In, Live Worldwide

MoonPay announced on August 31 that it has integrated its AI payment and wallet tool, PayBox, into X's chatbot Grok. What stands out is that this Grok integration is available worldwide with no regional restrictions — a contrast with the crypto lending feature MoonPay added to ChatGPT and Claude just days earlier, which excluded users in the US, UK, EU, and Australia. Why the same company's similar feature would have such different reach across platforms hasn't been explained yet.

To put it plainly, MoonPay is a company that handles crypto payments and wallets, and it recently added a crypto lending feature to both ChatGPT and Claude. This time, it's built a tool called PayBox into X's chatbot Grok, so users anywhere in the world can simply talk to Grok to buy coins, take out loans, and even book flights.

What you can do through Grok

Users can ask Grok to handle crypto trading and transfers across multiple blockchain networks. It's connected to Kamino, a Solana-based lending platform, so users can also deposit USDC — the dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Circle — to earn yield. Beyond crypto, Grok can also be asked to book flights or make restaurant reservations. According to MoonPay's press release, Grok prepares the transaction, and once the user approves it with a passkey, the funds move.

From ChatGPT and Claude to Grok

This isn't the first time MoonPay has bolted financial features onto a chatbot. Just days before the Grok integration, it added a crypto lending feature to ChatGPT and Claude — one that wasn't available to users in the US, UK, EU, or Australia. In July, it launched a platform letting businesses and institutions trade and move digital assets across more than 200 blockchain networks, and five months before that, it released developer tools letting AI agents independently manage wallets and execute trades. In other words, MoonPay has been expanding market by market, starting with places that carry lighter regulatory burdens.

There's context on the Grok side worth noting too. The flow goes like this: a user asks Grok in the chat window to trade crypto or make a booking, Grok prepares the transaction, and the user approves it with a passkey. For example, asking Grok to "deposit $100 in USDC into Kamino" would have it prepare the deposit transaction, and a passkey approval is all it takes to move the funds. Flight and restaurant bookings work the same way — tell Grok your preferred schedule and conditions, and it handles the booking process for you. That said, the original announcement doesn't spell out exactly which features are live in which countries, so the actual on-screen access paths are something to confirm as they become clear.

For companies and individuals in Korea, it's too early to rush into anything.
