Seedance 2.5

A family of video-generation AI models that turn text or images into short video clips, reportedly developed by ByteDance Seed.

In plain words

Seedance 2.5 is a program that takes a piece of text or a single photo and turns it into a short video. It's a bit like having a painter inside a computer who, when told what a scene looks like, actually recreates it as if it had been filmed with a real camera. Lately, its output has been praised as so refined that it's hard to tell apart from real camera footage.

However, the company that built the model is different from the services that let you try it out on the web. The model is reportedly developed by ByteDance Seed, while services like Krea and Runway are more like platforms that plug this model into their own products and offer it to users. Think of it as a chef creating a recipe (the model), which many different restaurants (platforms) then serve to their own customers in their own kitchens.

How it shows up in the news

In one of its posts, Krea said "seedance 2.5 is incredible at realism," making clear that it didn't build the model itself but is simply sharing results it obtained using the model on its own platform. Around the same time, Runway also announced it had integrated Seedance 2.5, supporting up to 50 character references and music-synced video generation. In other words, the model's name appearing in an article doesn't mean Krea or Runway developed it — it's better understood as a structure where multiple companies plug the same model into their own separate services.

Try it yourself

You can test this by entering a prompt like this into a video-generation service:

"A 10-second, one-shot video that looks like it was shot on a phone. Daytime, natural light. The frame shakes slightly and the autofocus hunts briefly. Photoreal, no CGI look. No slow motion, no music, no text."

The key isn't asking for a 'perfectly shot' video, but deliberately instructing camera imperfections like shake and focus hunting. These flaws are what actually make the output feel like real footage.
