Four Little Dragons
An industry nickname for a group of leading Chinese AI chip startups.
In plain words
The "Four Little Dragons" is a nickname used to refer to a group of the most capable and well-established startups making AI computing chips in China. Much like how sports fans might group four strong teams together as "the Big Four," people in China's AI chip industry use this term to refer to these companies as a set.
The term has been coming up a lot lately because these companies have been going public one after another. Since the U.S. government has kept restricting exports of advanced chips to China, Chinese chip companies have shifted toward raising capital in markets like Shanghai or Hong Kong instead of U.S. exchanges, and the companies known as the Four Little Dragons have been completing their listings one by one as part of this trend.
How it shows up in the news
In the article, Enflame, backed by Tencent, is introduced as "the last of the group known as the 'Four Little Dragons' — leading Chinese AI chip startups — to enter the public market." However, the report doesn't specify exactly which companies make up the other three. So it's more accurate to understand "Four Little Dragons" as an industry term referring to "a group of leading Chinese AI chip startups" rather than pinning it down to four specific named companies.
