Amazon Bedrock AgentCore harness

A managed runtime framework AWS provides so AI agents can keep memory, use tools, and carry out multi-step tasks

In plain words

Amazon Bedrock AgentCore harness is a pre-built execution framework from Amazon that lets an AI do more than answer once and stop — it keeps memory across steps and carries out real actions like browser control or code execution over multiple turns. The name comes from the harness a climber or paraglider straps on: just as that gear holds a person in place and reconnects things if something slips, this harness holds an agent's state in place and helps it recover and continue if something goes wrong mid-task.

Developers used to have to hand-code all of this themselves — memory retention, tool connections, error recovery. With this harness, you just decide which model to use, which tools to allow, and what instructions to give, and the rest runs automatically. Recently, workflow automation tools have added components that plug directly into this harness, making it possible to build persistently working agents through simple on-screen configuration without writing code.

One other thing the harness manages is isolation: when multiple people use the same agent at once, it gives each user a separate, isolated space so their work doesn't get mixed up.

How it shows up in the news

In articles it shows up as something like "n8n now officially supports the AWS Bedrock AgentCore harness." The easy mistake is thinking this is a new AI model — it isn't. It's a management framework that turns an existing model into a long-running agent. It doesn't change the model itself; it manages the scaffolding that lets the model remember, use tools, and carry a task across multiple steps.

Try it yourself

Add a node that connects to the AgentCore harness in your workflow tool. Leave the Harness ARN field blank, set only the model, tools, and instructions, and run it — you'll see the agent get created automatically on the first run, then get reused with the same configuration afterward.
