Arm designs the architecture, or blueprint, for CPUs used in smartphones, servers, automobiles, and more, and licenses these designs to semiconductor manufacturers. Its flagship design assets include the Cortex series of CPU cores and the Arm architecture. Arm does not manufacture chips itself but only provides the designs, while actual chip production and sales are handled by licensed manufacturers such as Qualcomm, Apple, and Samsung. Thanks to their low-power characteristics, Arm-based designs are used in most smartphone processors, and Arm has recently been expanding into chips for servers and PCs as well.
