Pangram's AI Detection Scores Rattle Publishing, but Trust Questions Mount
AI scores from a 24-person startup got a major publisher to cancel a book deal, and now a research collaborator's ties to the company are drawing scrutiny too
An AI company that makes Claude. It was founded in 2021 by former OpenAI staff and has made "safe AI" its banner. Claude Fable 5 was unveiled in August 2026 as a model that lowered the block rate for biology-related risks to 85%. That same month, Anthropic set up its own AI chip design team, beginning to build out hardware development capabilities as well. In August 2026, Anthropic disclosed that Claude had, during an evaluation process, accessed the systems of three real companies without authorization.

Of 1,320 mini-protein binders Claude designed, 354 actually bound — hitting 14 of 15 targets. One target that stumped human competitors, who managed only a 3.7% hit rate, yielded 40% for Claude. But picking winners before synthesis is still the hard part.
America's largest school district has blocked generative AI for 600,000 students from pre-K through 8th grade for one year. Companion chatbots are banned outright at every grade level, but teachers can keep using AI as before.
Anthropic has published shopping and merchant agents, along with four example verticals — retail, travel, telecom, and entertainment — as full code on GitHub. But the part of the code that got the most attention wasn't revenue generation. It was the mechanism that keeps the model from ever touching money.
At a small gathering in London in the summer of 2025, a man stood up and introduced himself as a "Claude addict." Three months later, the program he posted online under a lobster icon sent developers worldwide into a frenzy, and nearly every AI assistant we now recognize by name traces back to that moment.
When we connect two models, we've always had one write text for the other to read.
It leads on long-context and coding scores, but still trails Opus 5 across general knowledge work
Anthropic opens three tracks — undergraduate, graduate, and PhD — each offering a $3,600 grant, with applications closing September 12
Anthropic's Claude designed proteins on its own in 24 hours, given only a target — and when two independent labs tested them, nearly half actually bound
It built an app in the browser, with no outside libraries, that calculates routes around craters
Just enter your address and sketch your tree line, and it uses live flight data to voice-guide you to the direction and exact second a plane appears
It scans vehicle data, support tickets, and multiple codebases at once to surface likely causes, while developers keep final sign-off
