October 6, 2026 – Cloudflare, a leading connectivity cloud company, announced the launch of Cloudflare Basin, a data platform that helps developers and businesses build applications on their own data more easily and economically.
Built on the open data table format Apache Iceberg and Cloudflare R2, Basin provides an open serverless environment where businesses can ingest, store and organize analytics data and query the data they need using the various tools they already use.
Until now, building an advanced data analytics environment required dedicated data engineering staff and significant infrastructure costs. Dedicated servers typically had to be provisioned in advance for expected demand, multiple systems had to be integrated separately for data ingestion and analytics, and additional costs were incurred every time data moved between clouds. Because building and running data infrastructure was so costly, only a limited number of companies could make full use of advanced data analytics environments.
Basin focuses on reducing these burdens. Data is stored in an open industry-standard format that any compatible tool can read directly, so there is no need to copy or convert it, and there is no lock-in to a particular vendor. Data ingestion, management and analytics run on the Cloudflare network whenever needed, so there is no need to build or manage separate dedicated servers. There are also no data transfer fees when bringing data into Cloudflare or moving it out.
"Developers no longer need to take on the role of data infrastructure operator just to get the information they need from their own data," said Dane Knecht, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Cloudflare. "Cloudflare Basin brings the serverless approach developers have become familiar with on Cloudflare to data analytics. It helps customers keep control over their own data based on open standards, without clusters to manage or unnecessary data movement."
The benefits Basin offers customers are as follows.
Full control over data: Data is stored in Apache Iceberg, an open industry standard. Businesses can analyze their data directly with a variety of compatible tools and are not locked into any particular vendor.
Simple serverless operation: Basin runs on Cloudflare's global network. Developers can ingest, store and query data within seconds without building or managing any infrastructure.
No data transfer cost burden: There are no separate data transfer fees, even when querying data with tools in different clouds, platforms or regions.
"We moved our company's entire data pipeline to Basin Pipelines, Basin Catalog and Basin SQL," said Dax Raad, co-founder of Anomaly, the developer of the open-source AI coding agent OpenCode. "We replaced our complex Amazon Web Services (AWS) S3 and Athena setup with a simpler serverless architecture and can now reliably process all of our event data."
"Bobsled is a data product platform that helps build AI-ready data and distribute it to partners, suppliers and customers," said Julien Grobbelaar, head of platform at data product platform company Bobsled. "With Basin, we can build data products available on every major data and AI platform regardless of region. It maintains the level of reliability needed for production while incurring no data egress fees, so we can operate at far lower cost."
Cloudflare Basin is now generally available (GA). Developers can find more details and get started on the Cloudflare Basin developer page.
