NVIDIA B300
An AI compute GPU from NVIDIA's Blackwell Ultra generation, used as a semiconductor chip for training and running large AI models.
In plain words
The B300 is a specific GPU model made by NVIDIA. GPUs were originally built to render game graphics, but today they're used more for the massive calculations needed to train AI models and run them in practice. Just as car engines have different displacements and grades, GPUs come in generations and tiers—the B300 is a high-end model belonging to NVIDIA's Blackwell Ultra generation.
Data center operators buy these GPUs in bulk, install them in their facilities, and rent out the computing power to companies that need it. Which GPUs are installed, in what quantity, and with what cooling method determines the scale of AI services a given data center can support.
How it shows up in the news
An article states, "Equinix's facilities are mostly configured for NVIDIA's B300 Blackwell Ultra GPUs." Here, NVIDIA is the maker of the B300, while Equinix is a colocation company that buys these GPUs, installs them in its facilities, and rents them out to customers. It's important not to confuse the chip developer with the company that actually operates and sells the service built on it.
