Managed Session Storage

Managed Session Storage is a storage space where a cloud provider saves the state and context an AI agent has accumulated while working, then loads it back exactly as it was so the agent can pick up where it left off.

It's similar to checking your luggage at a hotel and finding your room untouched when you return from an outing. Even if an agent pauses in the middle of writing code, it doesn't need to explain from scratch how far it got when it resumes. The workflow up to that point simply remains intact.

"Managed" here means that the cloud provider runs and maintains this storage space on your behalf, so you don't have to build or manage it yourself. This becomes especially important when an agent's task runs for hours at a stretch, or when multiple agents need to collaborate by sharing the same context.

The article explains that "the existing AgentCore Runtime microVM runs for up to 8 hours and supports stateful workflows through managed session storage." It's worth noting this isn't a standalone product sold separately, but a term AWS uses to describe how its agent execution environment preserves task state.
