GWM Worlds 2

GWM Worlds 2 is a tool made by Runway that, instead of producing a single finished video, renders in real time a space you can actually walk into and move around. Like in a game, when you move the camera, the next scene is drawn on the spot, and starting with this version, sound is generated along with it.

Think of it as being structured like a film set. Someone in the "actor" seat moves a character around in first- or third-person view. Someone in the "director" seat doesn't control the character but instead talks to the stage itself — changing the weather or lighting a campfire. A third seat lets an AI, instead of a person, drive the character's actions. All three seats can connect to the same world at once and play together.

The way the world is described is also distinctive. You set up a persistent baseline once — things like the location and characters — and then feed in events that happen on top of that, one short sentence at a time. Each sentence is tagged with who it's directed at, so even when multiple people issue commands at the same time, they don't get mixed up.

Articles describe this as Runway calling it a "playable world model." The point that's easy to misunderstand is that this isn't playback of a pre-made video. It should be seen as different from ordinary video generation tools in that it renders the next scene on the fly, fresh, every time a user moves the camera or issues a command.
