Generative Video

Generative video is technology that lets a computer create brand-new moving scenes on its own, without ever using a camera. Give it a written description of a situation, or hand it a single photo, and it will draw up a moving scene that matches that content from scratch.

Think of it like asking a painter to make a picture for you: they imagine and paint something new. Except here, instead of a single still image, many scenes unfold over time and link together into a video. Facial expressions, the direction the camera moves, even the lighting in the background — all of it is freshly calculated moment by moment.

In the early days, there were plenty of awkward moments — a character's face or outfit would shift slightly every time the scene changed. Recently, though, these consistency problems have been largely resolved, and there are more and more cases of multiple scenes being stitched together into short films.

It's used in sentences like: "Just a year or two ago, generative video was hard to watch because faces, clothing, and spaces would shift and wobble from scene to scene." Now that these consistency problems have largely been solved, attention is shifting away from technical polish and toward editing and storytelling.
