Demo
A demonstration showing off a feature — the centerpiece of AI announcements, and something that always needs checking against "does it work like that in real use?"
In plain words
A demo (short for demonstration) is a showcase of a product or feature. In the AI industry, it's the centerpiece of any announcement and the core of marketing — unveiling a new model basically means releasing a demo video.
That's why "demo verification" has become part of AI journalism's job. Is it an edited video or a live run? Is it the best take out of many attempts? Do ordinary users get the same results? There have been several cases in industry history where the gap between a flashy demo and real-world use turned into controversy.
So when a METAL article includes the caveat "based on the demo," read it as meaning: this is the company's own demonstration, not yet independently verified.
