WebMCP

WebMCP is a name for an approach aimed at letting AI handle websites directly, like an employee rather than a guest. To put it in a metaphor: until now, an AI agent using a website has been like a clumsy guest reading the screen with its eyes and fumbling with a mouse. WebMCP looks more like an attempt to build an employees-only corridor into that same website.

Articles use it in phrases like "OpenAI held a hackathon called the 'WebMCP Challenge'." The important thing to note here is that OpenAI hosting this competition doesn't mean OpenAI created the WebMCP standard itself.
