Voice Input

Voice Input lets you speak instead of typing on a keyboard, turning your spoken words directly into text that gets sent to the AI. Your mouth takes over the job your hands would normally do on the keyboard.

Think of it like dictating a letter to a secretary who writes it down for you. Except here, the AI app itself does the transcribing, so whatever you say becomes the question in the chat box right away. It's handy when typing out a long sentence feels like a hassle, or when you want to ask something while your hands are busy doing something else.

That said, this only covers turning one spoken sentence into text for a single question — it's different from having an ongoing spoken conversation with the AI. That other feature is called Voice Mode.

The article notes that the Meta AI Mac app now includes dictation, letting you "type" questions by speaking instead of using the keyboard. That dictation feature is Voice Input. It's easy to confuse this with the feature for having an ongoing spoken conversation with the AI (the article separately mentions a Voice Mode supporting 13 languages) — but Voice Input simply converts one spoken sentence into text in the chat box, and that's it.

1. Look for a microphone icon next to the input box in your AI chatbot app.
2. Tap the microphone and speak your question out loud, as if you were typing it.
3. When you finish speaking, check that your sentence appears on screen as text.
4. If you want, manually fix any mistranscribed words before sending.
5. Try typing the same question instead and compare whether the results differ.
