Neolab

Neolab makes smartpens that convert handwriting into digital files as you write. When you write with the dedicated pen on special paper printed with a fine dot pattern, a tiny camera sensor built into the pen reads the dot pattern to track exactly where and how the pen moved. That record is then transferred to a smartphone or computer app and saved as an image or text of the handwriting.

To put it another way, an ordinary copier captures a whole page like a single photograph, but this pen records the actual movement of writing, moment by moment, as coordinate data. That means you can later replay the exact order in which the strokes were drawn, and it also makes it possible to turn handwritten notes into searchable text.
