Nemotron Coalition

The Nemotron Coalition is a group of companies organized under NVIDIA's leadership. Companies that share the same direction team up to jointly support 'open AI models' — AI models released openly so that anyone can use them. Think of it like teams in the same league agreeing to play on the same side.

The backdrop to this coalition forming is the rapid spread of AI models coming out of China. As open models from China, like DeepSeek and Alibaba's Qwen, keep multiplying, NVIDIA and other companies are reportedly trying to counter that by building their own camp of open models.

The AI search startup Perplexity joined this coalition back in March. Since then, there have been repeated signs that NVIDIA and Perplexity have grown notably closer, and the recent news of NVIDIA's large-scale investment talks can be seen as an extension of that same trend.
