Mythos-class

Mythos-class is one of the tiers within Anthropic's Claude family of conversational AI models. The company names and ranks its models into different levels based on performance and use case, and Mythos-class is known to sit one level above Opus-class.

An airline mileage program makes this easier to picture. Regular members get standard benefits, but the top tier requires a special review or invitation before the card is issued. Mythos-class works similarly: biology and chemistry researchers are, for now, only given access up to Opus-class, while access to the higher Mythos-class is reportedly available only through a separate program built jointly with the U.S. government.

In other words, Mythos-class isn't something anyone can currently apply for and use. It's understood to be a higher tier of models whose door only opens through the special channel of government collaboration.

The article notes that "biology and chemistry researchers will, for now, only have access up to the Opus-class model, and access to the higher Mythos-class is reportedly only opened through a separate program being built together with the U.S. government." A common misunderstanding here is assuming that the recently announced Claude for Life Sciences plan (aimed at 10,000 scientists) includes Mythos-class access. In reality, that plan only opens access up to Opus-class, and Mythos-class is still awaiting the details of a separate government collaboration program to take shape.
