Services like this don't just grab lyrics from anywhere — they sign formal agreements with record labels and publishers, pay licensing fees, and only then display the lyrics.

Recently, though, Musixmatch's name came up in a copyright lawsuit. Anthropic was accused of scraping lyrics without permission from sites like Musixmatch that had properly paid for licenses, in order to train its AI, Claude. In other words, Musixmatch itself didn't do anything wrong — the core issue is that another company allegedly took content Musixmatch had gone through the trouble of properly licensing, without permission.
