Claude Managed Agent
An Anthropic-built automation agent based on Claude, equipped with management features like spending caps and a reviewer model.
In plain words
A Claude Managed Agent is a Claude-based program that gets a management control panel bolted onto it. It's a bit like hiring a new employee at a company: you don't just hand them work, you also set a monthly spending limit on their card and have a senior staffer sign off on important decisions. A Claude Managed Agent works the same way — it carries out tasks on its own, but there's a cap on how much it can spend, and its output can be routed through another model for review.
While an "agent" in general just means a program that acts on its own judgment to complete tasks, adding "managed" means there are mechanisms in place for an organization to control and oversee that work. It's less a hobbyist's personal tool and more a safeguard for companies running many agents across many employees at once, meant to prevent runaway costs or careless mistakes.
How it shows up in the news
The article reports that "on August 9, Anthropic added spending caps and an advisor model feature to Claude Managed Agent." Here, Claude Managed Agent doesn't refer to the Claude model itself, but to a separate managed service that wraps around the model so it can run safely within an organization. It shouldn't be confused with simply "using Claude."
