Agents
A panel inside Microsoft 365 Copilot that lets you build task-specific AI assistants using plain-language descriptions instead of code.
In plain words
Agents is a feature inside Microsoft 365 Copilot that lets you describe a task in a sentence and have it build a small assistant to keep handling that task for you. It's similar to telling a personal assistant what you need done, and having them assign a dedicated staffer to take care of it going forward.
Until now, building this kind of assistant usually required a developer to write code. But in the Agents panel, typing something like "organize my Monday meeting materials every week" is enough to generate a draft assistant designed to carry out that recurring task based on your description.
Microsoft introduced this feature alongside its August 2026 move to merge the consumer and enterprise Copilot apps into one. While some mascot-style extras were being phased out, the ability to build your own work assistants directly is expected to take a more prominent place going forward.
How it shows up in the news
Try it yourself
- Open Microsoft 365 Copilot and go to the menu for creating an agent.
- Describe the assistant you want in a sentence. Example: "Create an assistant that summarizes this week's received emails and sends it out every Friday afternoon."
- Review the generated draft, and refine it by rewriting your request in plain language if anything is missing.
